Trip to Hornchurch

On Wednesday some of the P-HIC children walked into Hornchurch with Mrs Murphy and Miss Meade. This was to develop the children's language and vocabulary about towns and shops.

Not only did we go to the butcher's shop and the bakers but we also went into the bank to use the cash point machine. After a quick visit to the supermarket we were lucky enough to be invited into the fire station for a tour. The children even got to use the hose!

We had a quick snack at the Queen's Theatre and then headed off to Langton's Gardens to feed the ducks. Finally we hopped on a 193 bus to take us back to school.

Deaf Identity Morning

On Monday 4th July 2016, all the P-HIC pupils got together, with a deaf child from a different school,  and enjoyed a morning of “Deaf Identity” activities. First they went on the internet and looked at lots of different hearing aid designs and ideas for decorating and personalising hearing aids after which they designed their dream hearing aid or cochlear implant. Pokemon seemed to be a popular choice as was Spiderman, Batman, Frozen and Football!
After break, Mrs Beange taught them a signed song called “Good to be me.” They played various  instruments, such as drums, maracas, boomwhackers and chime bars, to accompany the song.
Finally, they watched a Charlie Chaplin video. Miss Meade’s Literacy group have been researching into this famous actor from the silent movies era and told the rest of the children that they had found out that Charlie Chaplin had worked a lot with a deaf actor called Granville Redmond with whom he used to communicate using American Sign language. The children all enjoyed a very funny film clip of Charlie in a food factory trying out a feeding machine!

Krazy Kat Theatre Presents the Very Magic Flute

The Krazy Kat Theatre Company made a welcome return to our school to treat hearing impaired and Key Stage 1 children to another wonderfully creative and colourful performance. Our pupils were spellbound by 'The Very Magic Flute', loosely based on Mozart’s opera, and they clearly loved the Krazy Kat's accomplished visual storytelling. Combining mime, dance, song, Commedia dell'arte, beautiful puppets and fully integrated sign language, our pupils couldn't fail to be enchanted. Thank you again to the Krazy Kat Theatre Company for another superb performance.
